CONGRATS TO OUR 2019 HONOREES

Thomson Reuters
STEM Vision Award

Thomson Reuters has been an essential partner with Sci-Tech’s Girl Power pro-gram for several years and has helped bring excitement and interest in STEM careers to young women across North Texas.  In 2018, the visionary leadership at Thomson Reuters further funded the development of our STEM in Motion van, so the programming that Sci-Tech has developed alongside the team at Thomson Reuters could be delivered throughout our community. Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s most trusted provider of answers, has shown great insight into community needs and creating solutions for fostering an increas-ingly technical workforce.

Finisar
Advisory Council Spotlight Award

In December, Sci-Tech was awarded a generous grant by Finisar, global technol-ogy leader in optical communications with an exciting manufacturing presence in Grayson County, to allow for the creation of a Mobile Laser Lab. The Finisar Mobile Laser Lab will serve students in grades 6 through 12 as a hands-on introduction to lasers and optical components. This type of investment allows Sci-Tech to reach older students in a meaningful way and expose them to ca-reers in science which are exciting and in high demand. Finisar’s commitment to helping our local community develop scientific thinkers that our high-tech economy needs makes them a perfect partner that exemplifies community leadership.

High-Tech High Heels
Founders Community Partner Award

High-Tech High Heels is committed to closing the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and as such, has been an innovative new partner for Sci-Tech Discovery Center. High-Tech High Heels has partnered with Sci-Tech to create an interactive electrical engineering lab as a part of the center’s new STEM in Motion van. The women of High-Tech High Heels are changing the future of engineering by inspiring students of all ages to pursue STEM-based careers.

Speedway Children’s Charities
STEM for All Award

Through their generous Founders’ Grant, Speedway Children’s Charities has funded the creation of the Sci-Tech Mobile Maker Space, which will premiere in Fall of 2019. The Mobile Maker Space will consist of a van and 16-foot trailer outfitted with the essential tools and kits to operate on-site programs, which will bring opportunities to schools and children who otherwise would be unable to visit the Sci-Tech Discovery Center. Receiving the generous Founder’s Grant from Speedway Children’s Charities enables Sci-Tech to eliminate the transpor-tation barrier that exists between underserved markets and science education.  By bringing STEM and MAKER education to underserved markets, the Mobile Maker Space will allow Sci-Tech to bring STEM to All.
